Am I expected to do anything?

Yes absolutely. I ask that you are willing to make the changes for yourself, I am not able to wave
a wand and make things better, but I can give you the tools to help you understand yourself or the particular situation you going through.

You are given tasks to complete such writing letters, keeping diary’s, drawing pictures, activities

You will notice when and where you’re progressing in therapy and will have a better understanding of your next goal, movement or destination in life.

What can counselling be used for?

Counselling is used for all sorts, as it allows the client to be able to express themselves, to take responsibility and to gain control of their lives, it’s about helping them work through situations that they may not be able to cope with alone.

When unwanted feelings and emotions begin to emerge from the past or from present and
ongoing situations they can be rather painful and sometimes difficult to manage or understand; making them hard to work through; for what seems almost impossible to find closure within that situation.

We will find ways to deal with the pain; we adapt coping strategies which can sometimes work against us later in life. Things such as; drug/ alcohol abuse, smoking, eating, self harming, sex, shopping, obsessive exercise, isolation, violence and behaving in ways that are not acceptable, harmful or hurtful for others. All of these things we use in order to assist us in coping with our situations, we find it hard to cope with our feelings so we suppress these feelings to stop/ease
the pain and we enjoy momentarily our chosen behavior.

A few things counselling can be use for:

    Depression

    Low self esteem

    Stress/ Anxiety

    Bereavement / Loss

    Sexuality issues

    Relationships

    Abuse (sexual, physical & Psychological)

Is counselling for me?

If you make the choice to change and want the change more than the opposing issue, then I would say yes. You are free to ask as many questions as you wish, and even after the consultation if you choose not to continue that is your choice which is also respected. If you choose to continue I am here to assist you, to listen without judging and to show you how to use the tools that you already have.
